TSA Unveils New Executive Jet Security Rule

The announcement of the notice of proposed rulemaking follows clearance by the office of Management and Budget and requires operators of aircraft with a maximum certified takeoff weight of more then 12,500 pounds to obtain and implement TSA's large aircraft security program.

According to TSA, the proposed rule requires:

• Crewmember criminal history records checks and security threat assessments;
• Watch list matching of passenger manifests;
• Basic aircraft security procedures;
• Security training for crewmembers;
• Designation of a security coordinator by each aircraft operator
• Biennial third-party audits; and
• New Security requirements for reliever airports and others that server large business aircraft.
