EMERGENCIES HAPPEN – BE PREPARED WITH AN AVIATION ERP

Natural disasters, health emergencies, pilot strikes, and other unpredictable factors can greatly impact the safety, lives, and livelihoods of travelers. Having an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in place allows for a quick, effective and actionable response when unforeseen events take place.

In August 2019, Hurricane Dorian was the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas. It is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history and the first major hurricane of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season (which lasts through October). The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts above-normal hurricane activity this year, encouraging residents in communities that can be impacted by landfalling hurricanes to ensure their preparedness measures are in place now. FEMA administrator Pete Gaynor said, “We urge everyone to prepare now, ahead of time, so that if state and local authorities announce evacuations in advance of a storm, you and your family will have planned where to go and what to do to stay safe.”

In September 2019, British Airways (BA) canceled 1,700 flights when its pilots went on strike over a demand for higher pay. Approximately 195,000 passengers were forced to seek alternative flights with very little advance notice, causing a major upheaval for flyers and virtually bringing London’s Heathrow Airport to a standstill. As talks with BA and the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) continue, the threat of another strike looms.

No one plans for an emergency to occur, but when one happens, having an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in place is critical for companies and individuals alike. An ERP allows a company, group, or family to act quickly when an event takes place, ensuring the safety of everyone traveling. Having an effective ERP for private aviation is the quickest route to an evacuation of any size.

Private Jet Services (PJS) has the deep experience and broad resources necessary to respond quickly to any event. PJS works with full-time medical teams and first responders to provide emergency evacuation and continuity of care needed in the event of an emergency. Security and business departments skilled in risk management regularly call on PJS for help in developing emergency response plans. PJS’ ERP services not only include initial emergency plans and procedures but periodic assessments to ensure the ERP is still the best plan.

Last-minute emergency travel can be one of the most stressful events a passenger can endure.
